Intimate family photography
One day you wake up and your baby is walking, and then they are off to kindergarten. And the next thing you know they are on their first date. The pictures of your sweet toddler today will be the ones you’ll look back on together when she starts high school, laughing at the goofy faces she used to make.
Family photo sessions are the perfect way to remember those transitions that go by so quickly, pregnancy, a fresh new baby, first steps and first words, as well as a way to meaningfully document your family as you grow and change from year to year.
What to expect
Family photo sessions usually last between 1 and 2 hours. We meet either at your home or a beautiful outdoor location (or both!). During this time I’ll capture you interacting with each other and provide some guidance on posing. We’ll go at the pace you and your children are comfortable with, and take breaks when needed. As a parent, I know how stressful planning anything with young kids can be, so I’ll go with the flow of your family. Plus, I’m not gonna lie, kids love me; we might even be best friends by the time we are through.

Scroll down and fill out the contact form below! From there we will have a conversation about what you are looking for, availability, style, etc. If we seem like a great fit, I’ll send you a proposal to sign and you’ll pay the session fee. After that the fun part begins!
How long do family photo sessions take?
Family photo sessions usually last between 45-90 minutes. But I go at the pace of your family, and I generally give myself up to 2.5 hours so we have plenty of room for flexibility.
How much planning is involved?
Once you’ve booked with me I’ll send over the client prep guide that covers 90% of the most common questions people have when getting ready for their photo shoot. I’ll also ask you to fill out a questionnaire to help me get to know you and your family better. If you are like me and looove extra homework you can spend a few minutes making a Pinterest board to help me see the vibes you love (this is helpful but not required). From there I’m always happy to have a conversation over the phone about your ideas or questions. A few days before your session we’ll touch base to be sure we are on the same page and to go over things like weather, parking, etc.
How much does a family session cost?
My creative session fee is $250. This covers time planning and shooting your custom photos.
Collections of digital files and print products are purchased separately after you’ve seen a preview of your photos so that you can have all the information you need before deciding how much to spend. Collections start at $700. Most clients spend between $900-$1100. All photo collections come with a substantial print credit so that you can choose which physical print products you want in your home.
Where do family sessions take place?
Either in your home or other beautiful nearby location, or we can do both if there is time. Together we can choose a location that works best for your family. If you are in Charlottesville, click here for some of my favorite outdoor locations.
When should I book a family photo session?
This depends on your goals! Fall and spring are gorgeous in Virginia and weekend dates fill up quickly. If you need print products by a certain date (like Mother’s day or Christmas) I recommend booking for at least 6 weeks ahead.
